Consumer Vehicle Guide provides inspection reports as a general guide only. Our inspections are visual and operational assessments — they are not a guarantee of a vehicle's condition, history, or future performance. By using our services you agree to the terms below.
1. About our service
Consumer Vehicle Guide provides pre-purchase vehicle inspection services and mechanical invoice/quote review services to customers across New Zealand. Our inspections are carried out by qualified and experienced automotive technicians.
Our reports are intended to assist you in making an informed purchasing decision. They are a guide — not a warranty, guarantee, or certification of any kind.
2. Nature and limitations of inspections
Our inspections are visual and functional assessments conducted at the time of inspection. You acknowledge and agree that:
- Inspections are non-invasive. We do not dismantle, remove, or destructively test any component of the vehicle.
- Some faults and defects are hidden, intermittent, or not detectable through a visual inspection — including but not limited to internal engine wear, concealed rust, electrical faults not present at the time of inspection, and issues hidden beneath panels or undercoating.
- Our report reflects the condition of the vehicle at the time and location of inspection only. Conditions may change after inspection.
- We do not conduct vehicle history checks, title searches, odometer fraud checks, or finance/encumbrance searches unless explicitly stated.
- An inspection report is not a Warrant of Fitness (WoF) and should not be treated as one.
3. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by New Zealand law, Consumer Vehicle Guide and its inspectors, employees, and contractors are not liable for:
- Any faults, defects, or issues not identified in the inspection report
- Any loss, damage, cost, or expense arising from your reliance on the inspection report
- Any consequential, indirect, or special loss of any kind
- The cost of any repairs, replacements, or vehicle devaluation
- Any decision to purchase or not purchase a vehicle based on our report
Where liability cannot be excluded under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986, our liability is limited to the cost of re-supplying the inspection service.
4. No guarantee of purchase outcome
Our inspection report is one input into your purchasing decision. We strongly recommend you also consider obtaining an independent legal check on ownership and finance, reviewing the vehicle's service history, and seeking additional specialist assessments where recommended in our report.
Consumer Vehicle Guide takes no responsibility for any purchasing decision made by the customer, regardless of the findings in our report.
5. Invoice and quote review
Our invoice and quote review service provides a general assessment of whether quoted repair work appears reasonable based on standard industry pricing at the time of review. This is an opinion-based advisory service only. We do not guarantee the accuracy of any pricing assessment, and we accept no liability for any decisions made based on our review.
6. Payment and cancellation
Payment is required prior to or at the time of inspection unless otherwise agreed. Our cancellation policy is as follows:
- Standard inspections: Cancellations made with more than 24 hours notice will receive a full refund. Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice are non-refundable.
- Urgent same-day inspections: All urgent same-day inspections are non-refundable once booked, regardless of notice given.
- No-show or unable to access vehicle: If our technician attends and cannot access the vehicle due to incorrect information provided by you, no refund will be issued and a call-out fee may apply.
7. Accuracy of information
You are responsible for providing accurate information about the vehicle location and availability. If an inspector attends and is unable to complete the inspection due to incorrect information provided by you, a call-out fee may apply.
8. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand. Any disputes will be subject to the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
